We are very sorry he has Aids, and wish him good health, as he writes about on his blog, but that does not give http://hardcoremesorah.wordpress.com/ Shmuel Gonzales (a.k.a. “Shmu the Jew” the right to slander defame and lie about  our online conversion program. Most of what Shmuel Gonzales (a.k.a. “Shmu the Jew” says about our award winning online conversion program is  filled with lies, innuendo, improper facts. http://hardcoremesorah.wordpress.com/Shmuel Gonzales (a.k.a. “Shmu the Jew”’s piece about us is full of grievous sins of lashin harah (gossip), richilus (tale bearing) and defamation. Judaism teaches God cannot abide in a universe with someone who embarrasses someone in public unjustly. The net result will be to drive would be converts to much poorer courses and programs.

What you need to know

1.      We are the only program to win a gold medal in adult education. It is a phenonenal curriculum and students love it and are inspired and enriched by it. If this guy is personally opposed to all online conversion learning, and feels, wrongly in our view, that a would be convert cannot be properly prepared for conversion through our course or any online course, then say so. Because if not, if you think it possible a convert can be prepared this way, then ours program is an excellent way. There are many rabbis who have carefully investigated our course, have seen the results time after time of wonderful wold be Jews come before the beit din and impress them with the learning, sincerity, desire and are accepted as converts. This fellow Shmu the jew has done none of that. he does not know the course of instruction, the candidates or the process and still passes judgement on it, calling it a sham. How are he!
Is his judgement better than all the rabbis who actually sit on the beit din and see for themselves?  

2.    The  Rabbi, who this fellow singles out, did resign in 2004 from his congregation after a friendship with a congregant went terribly wrong and he made a huge mistake. But that does not change the fact he is a brilliant, amazing Jewish educator with over 700 videos of Jewish content, seen and educating millions on the internet and helping thousands of Jews and would be Jews.

 when he said the Rabbi resigned from the Rabbinical Assembly because of that. He resigned in 2011, 7 years later. The Rabbinical Assembly did not ban him. He resigned. Just because a Rabbi is not a member of the rabbinical assembly does not mean he is "Banned" or that what he is involved with, is a "scam". Most rabbis are not members of the Rabbinical Assembly. The Conservative Movement is shrinking and they admitted only a tiny class to the Rabbinical School this year. 

             The Rabbinical Assembly, foolishly in our opinion, rejects online learning for conversion. The Conservative Movement is falling apart, shrinking before our eyes each year, and they resist this innovative way to help Jews and would be Jews. This Rabbi  does not sit on the beit din since resigning, but simply helps out administratively. He does not sign the papers for conversion. Unlike the other distance online learning conversion programs, these documents are signed by genuine, veteran rabbis from major denominations of Reform and Conservative.           Our program has been a brilliant success. We have helped many hundreds become Jewish and participate all over the world, and now the  Rabbinical Assembly turns its back on them? That is still no excuse to defame it by calling it a sham. The course provides an authentic, introduction to Judaism as proper prep for a Jew by Choice. people love the course and learn so much. many are then converted by local rabbis. how is that a sham? Overwhelmingly the ones our beit din converted have been accepted all over the world. Shmu tells the story of one guy who was not admitted as a member.  That fellow  erroneously told us he applied to a Conservative synagogue. Upon inbvestigation we learned  that synagogue is not Conservative. It has 2 services, Traditional and Orthodox,  and its rabbi is Orthodox.

            Since August when they began stating they would not recognize  distance learning program, we tell people on the initial inquiry in writing that online conversion  distance learning is not accepted by the Conservative Movement. 

         Another idiotic point from Shmuel Gonzales. He claims we improperly use Rabbinical Assembly conversion forms. Every Rabbi who signs those forms from our beit din ARE members of the RA. What forms should they use? Orthodox.

Orthodox Jews simply think their way is the only way. It is tragic because there are many thousands of would be Jews all over the world who cannot find a nearby rabbi to teach them, but really want to be Jewish. With technology today, we think it absurd for Orthodoxy and Conservative to not allow them. We don’t expect Orthodox to accept this, (though quietly some Orthodox rabbis have when they see what a great curriculum we have and who signs our documents), but these people are living as Jews now because we made it possible, and participating actively all over the world.

6.     Why were we singled out by the Rabbinical Assembly? Several of the other online conversion programs are supervised and developed by “Rabbis” ordained online. Their converts will never be accepted widely. A few others are supervised by only Reform rabbis. We have 12 Rabbis, all ordained from authentic, genuine, Conservative or Reform seminaries who participate in our beit din. We think it probable the Rabbinical Assembly wants to control the Conservative brand and feels we are a threat to that. We were the only online conversion program advertising that we were Conservative and they did not like that. Online learning is good enough for Harvard, Yale etc but not the RA. Conservative Judaism is dying and they resist creative outreach.      They now want to pass negative judgement on online learning opportunities for people who want to be Jewish in the same way  the Ultra Orthodox do to the regular Orthodox., and the regular Orthodox do to the Conservative. "Your conversions are not kosher enough for me. " And Shmu the Jew encourages this travesty!

7.      Our Rabbis are all very distinguished Conservative and Reform rabbis, many with PHDs, most retired and have careers spanning 35-50 years of service to Congregations. Many have held and hold leadership positions in the Jewish world and believe deeply in this program or they would not sign their name to conversion documents. 

And disgustingly, /hardcoremesorah.wordpress.com/ Shmuel Gonzales (a.k.a. “Shmu the Jew” impugns the integrity of a real baal tzedakah, who went through our program himself, and now helps support it and many Jewish philanthropic outreach and educational projects throughout the Jewish world, including Orthodox. Shame on Shmu the jew!

8.     http://hardcoremesorah.wordpress.com/ Shmuel Gonzales (a.k.a. “Shmu the Jew” ignores the crucial fact that most of our students simply study with our course and then convert locally with rabbis nearby but NEED our course because the rabbis are too busy to teach them themselves or the students live too far for a regular brick and mortar course.

      

     No one can offer a fool proof conversion that will be universally accepted aside from the Ultra Orthodox.     We offer a great course and preparation and encourage people to convert with their local rabbi. Sometimes there isn't one and we have assembled veteran rabbis from non orthodox denominations who sit and approve the candidates. If a rabbi somewhere is so small minded, or the rabbinical assembly is so small minded and foolish they can't see the need for this program, shame on them. of all the online programs out there, we are the onloy ones developed by Rabbis with a traditional background and we think the only one that offers a full beit din of genuine rabbis.  Shmu the Jew arrogantly ignores all these truths.

Gonzlas keeps focusing on the money involved. His analysis is specious and improper for these reasons

1. Our COURSE costs, but much less than the other online conversion programs by 50%-600% less, (yes some charge many thousands for their program) and more than that less than what individual Conservative and Reform  rabbis charge for tutoring individuals outside their synagogues.  Should our hard work and labor be given away for free? Does Shmuli live off the government or something or does someone pay him for his work? Its a free country. People are welcome to take or not take the course. We also give SUBSTANTIAL scholarships to those who ask, through the generosity of a man Shmuli tries to trash on his blog. Unconscionable!

2. If they CHOOSE to convert with us after the course, (and many don't. Many use our course as a prereq with their local rabbi and convert there), there are expenses. The mikvah charges them $180. New York we hear is up to $250. Does shmuli want to pay the water and electric bill for the mikvah or is it ok for them to charge?

The rabbis who sit on the beit din have a right to be compensated for their time. The mohel who shleps there to perform hatafat dam has a right to be compensated.

His implication that somehow  money charged for this  is wrong is  is pathetic, specious. Rabbis who are paid very handsomely by Congregations usually don't even bother to teach converts but farm them out to programs like ours.

           

We have fantastic class which hundreds of people have used to successfully learn about Judaism and then convert and are now very active in the synagogues nearby or living Jewish life in remote areas. It is a deep shame Orthodox and Conservative denominations are so backward so far they refuse to see thye wisdom of this. Conservative Judaism especially, shrinking into nothingness more and more each year, should embrace this but, alas, they have not.

This fellow who calls himself Shmu the Jew and makes nonsense videos on the internet virtually no one watches, and then as an "Orthodox" Jew, slanders and defames our great non Orthodox program  learning program. He is trying to drive people to less quality programs or to not even try to convert online. Shame on him.
